Working With the Flop
One of the ways to get the others at the table to believe you are strong, use the flop to tell your story. This means you simply play it cool before the flop and just call to get to the flop. Once the cards are dealt, if an ace hits the board or a pair, make your move. The key here is betting so big that you get all the people trying to catch to fold and come back the next hand. If you bet is big enough, they will believe you connected on the flop and will not want to invest any more chips to find out if you did or did not connect.
Catching on the River
Another great play is simply making small calls up to the river, this way the pot is nice and juicy. At the river, you represent that full house, flush, or straight that got there. Most players will feel rather than experience a bad beat they can jump out now and just let you have the pot and no more of their chips.
